Every recipient gets their own email.
Write one message. Cabal sends each person a separate email from your connected Gmail or Outlook account, with their name filled in.
Key Features
-
One email per person
Each recipient gets a separate email and thread, and people in To don't see each other's addresses.
-
Names filled in
Add {{first_name}} or {{full_name}} from the toolbar in the body, or type one in the subject, and each email greets its reader by name.
-
Broken tags caught
Cabal flags tags it doesn't recognize before you send, and won't send anyone an email with a tag left unfilled in the body.
-
Opens and clicks
With Mail Pro, see who opened each email and what they clicked, so you can follow up with the right people.
How mail merge works in Cabal
Write your message once, add a contact list or type people into To, and send. With Mail Merge switched on, which is the default, Cabal sends a separate email to each person from your connected Gmail or Outlook account. Every recipient gets their own thread, and replies come back to your inbox.
That suits emails that go to a list but should read as if they were written to one person: investor and LP updates, event invitations, and announcements to customers or partners. Send now, or schedule the send for later.
A name in every email, and a note for anyone
Choose {{first_name}} or {{full_name}} from the Use Variables menu in the editor toolbar. Cabal fills them in from each contact's name when the email goes out, in the subject line as well as the body.
For anything more than a name, such as a thank-you to one investor or a different ask for a partner, open that person in the Personalize panel and edit their email directly. Everyone else gets the main message.
Check it before it goes out
Send yourself a test first. It goes only to you, with the tags filled in from your own name, so you can read the subject and greeting the way a recipient will.
When you press Send, Cabal checks the subject and body for tags it doesn't recognize, such as {{FirstName}}, and suggests a fix for misspelled name tags. If you send anyway, any email whose body still has a tag Cabal can't fill isn't sent. The subject isn't checked again as each email goes out, so read it in your test email.
Who gets what when you send
Where you put people, and whether Mail Merge is on, decides who receives which email. Here's what each option does in Cabal.
Mail merge
Each person in To gets their own email, in their own thread.
- People in To don't see each other's addresses, so a reply-all can't reach the whole list.
- {{first_name}} and {{full_name}} are filled in for each person, in the subject and the body.
- Mail Merge is on by default in the composer.
One shared email
Turn Mail Merge off and everyone in To gets one email together, in a single thread.
- Everyone sees every address in To, and reply-all reaches the whole group.
- Anyone you CC gets that one email.
- Tags aren't filled in, and if the body has one, the email isn't sent to anyone.
CC
Copying someone on a 50-person mail merge sends them 50 emails.
- In a mail merge, everyone in CC gets one email for every recipient in To.
- To keep a colleague in the loop with a single email, add them to To instead.
- With Mail Merge off, CC works as usual: each person you copy gets the one shared email.
BCC
Cabal's composer doesn't have a BCC field.
- You don't need one to hide a list: in a mail merge, people in To already can't see each other's addresses.
- Each person gets an individual email instead of one email with the list hidden in BCC.
